pointer It’s me! Shreya!

A little more about who I am and what I do..

I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Dehradun, India. I completed my Bachelor’s in Zoology and Botany at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and later moved to Germany for my Master’s degree in Behaviour: From Neural Mechanisms to Evolution. I am now a PhD candidate in the Department of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Bielefeld.

My PhD research focuses on understanding phenotypic (and behavioural) variation within and across species. I specialize in evidence synthesis using systematic reviews and meta-analysis to analyse what the scientific literature collectively tells us and find gaps in research. A typical day in my research-life looks like a desk job.. where I read and evaluate literature and write a lot of R codes, a very different setting from where I begun. Before evidence synthesis, my research experience ranged from field studies to lab experiments.

I am a strong advocate of Open, Transparent and Reproducible Science. In my work, I emphasize transparent workflows, pre-registrations, data sharing and reproducible coding practices. Nothing brings me more joy than improving my workflows and making my science more valauble than just the final publication alone.

A large part of what I know today comes from the generosity of the scientific community around me — everyone who shared their data and code, well-written tutorials, and the amazing researchers who openly shared their knowledge. I have been fortunate to learn from and collaborate with incredible people. I enjoy sharing what I learn — through workshops on systematic reviews, meta-analysis, R and Quarto. I see training others as my tiny way of giving back to the community that has taught me so much.

Curiosity drives me — whether it’s learning new methods, exploring new coding tools, or taking code apart just to understand how it works. This website is one such project: a space where I try my hands on web design while sharing my research journey.

I hope you find something interesting here. Feel free to reach out if you want to connect!
